Heavy perspiration is an issue that affects many more people than is commonly believed. It is now thought that around one person in ten suffers from excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis. People with the condition experience outbreaks of excessive sweating which they cannot control. This often has a serious impact on their day-to-day routine, career and social life.
At our clinic in St. Gallen, we offer MiraDry® – an innovative treatment to combat underarm perspiration. Unlike conventional treatments for hyperhidrosis, which typically involve surgical removal of the sweat glands, the MiraDry® treatment relies on thermal energy. Like hair follicles, sweat and odour glands atrophy when heated. Perspiration is immediately reduced as a result. A positive side effect of this treatment is a permanent reduction in underarm hair growth.

FAQs about MiraDry® treatment
What is the MiraDry® treatment?
MiraDry® is a non-surgical treatment for underarm perspiration and sweat-related odours. The treatment causes the sweat glands, odour glands and hair follicles in the armpit to atrophy. We therefore offer the MiraDry® treatment in St. Gallen to achieve permanent reductions in perspiration and sweat-related odour. It also reduces underarm hair growth.
How does MiraDry® counter underarm perspiration?
In a MiraDry® treatment, we use a special device that applies thermal energy in the underarm region. This permanently destroys the sweat and odour glands, after which they are transported out of the body. The treated areas are continuously cooled throughout the procedure to avoid damaging the surrounding tissue.
What results can I expect from a MiraDry® treatment?
Following a MiraDry® treatment in St. Gallen, you can expect an immediate reduction in perspiration and odour. The treatment causes the sweat glands to atrophy, which directly reduces underarm perspiration. A positive side effect of this treatment is a reduction in underarm hair growth.
Does MiraDry® treatment achieve permanent results?
The results of the treatment are permanent because, once they atrophy, the sweat glands do not grow back. The atrophied sweat glands are removed from the body via the lymphatic system and are then excreted.
The vast majority of people respond very well to the MiraDry® treatment. If the first treatment session does not achieve the desired results, we can also repeat the MiraDry® treatment here in St. Gallen.
How many treatment sessions are required?
One treatment session is usually enough to achieve the desired results. Clinical studies have shown that it reduces perspiration by an average of 82%. However, it is important to bear in mind that individual patients’ circumstances can differ significantly.
Depending on your specific circumstances, it may be worth arranging a repeat MiraDry® treatment. In this case, we would perform the follow-up session around 3 to 6 months after the first treatment. At that point, we will be able to safely assess how effective the first treatment was and whether a second session would be worthwhile.
How long does the MiraDry® treatment to counter perspiration last?
A MiraDry® treatment lasts around 60 to 90 minutes. It does not require any specific preparation and does not usually require any recovery, so it only takes up very little time.
Is the treatment safe?
The MiraDry® treatment has been clinically tested and successfully applied many times around the world. It is a non-invasive treatment method, so it can be considered very safe. We achieve the desired atrophying solely through controlled application of thermal energy. No radiation of any kind is used.
Is the MiraDry® treatment painful?
The MiraDry® treatment is almost completely painless. In addition, we perform the treatment under local anaesthetic here in St. Gallen, so you should experience very little pain during the procedure. Your skin may be slightly irritated immediately after the treatment, though any such issues should recede within a few days or weeks.
When are patients presentable following a MiraDry® treatment?
You will be able to return to your professional and social obligations straight after a MiraDry® treatment in St. Gallen. All you need to do is avoid strenuous physical activities for a few days.
Does the MiraDry® treatment for underarm perspiration have side effects?
The side effects following a MiraDry® treatment are usually limited to localised skin reactions. Your underarm region may be temporarily irritated or red. We recommend gently cooling the region to counteract any temporary heightened sensitivity.
You may also experience temporary swelling, bruising or a slight feeling of numbness. These are entirely normal side effects of the treatment and should recede on their own within a few days or weeks.
How much does a MiraDry® treatment cost?
We offer the MiraDry® treatment in St. Gallen starting from CHF 1,950. The exact costs can vary somewhat, as we tailor each treatment to the individual patient. Please contact us to arrange a consultation at the prevention-center. Once we have explored your situation, we would be happy to put together a proposal for you, taking your personal circumstances into account.
